Description

Pharma-Algi F is an absorbent and hemostatic wound dressings, made of alginate nonwoven fibres that form an absorbent pad. In the presence of exudate, the fibers absorb liquid and swell and calcium ions present in the fiber are partially replaced by sodium, causing the dressing to take on a gel-like appearance. This provides a micro-environment that is believed to facilitate wound healing.

Intended Purpose:
Pharma-Algi  F is used as primary dressing to manage partial thickness wounds with moderate to highly exudates that have breached dermis which may also be prone to minor bleeding: Cavity Wounds, chronic Wounds, leg ulcers, pressure ulcers, venous leg ulcers, diabetic foot ulcers, traumatic wounds, lacerations, abrasions and donor sites.

Contraindications & Precautions

Contraindications:
• Do not use on patients with a known allergy to alginates.
• Do not use on dry/low exudating wounds, as the absorption capacity may cause sticking to the wound or cause the wound to dry out and
become painful.
• Do not use on Eyes, mucous membranes or tendons, due to the risk of dehydration.
• It is not intended to be used as a surgical sponge or to achieve haemostasias in heavily bleeding wounds.
• Do not use on infected wounds unless under medical supervision.

Precautions:
• For single use only. Reuse may cause cross contamination.
• Dispose as a contaminated product.
• Make sure the skin is clean, dry and free from soap residue and lotion to ensure good adhesion.
• Do not stretch the dressing during application as tension can cause skin trauma.

Instructions for Use

1. Cleanse the wound in accordance with normal procedures.
2. Choose a dressing which is slightly larger than the wound and place it in intimate contact with the wound base, ensuring the entire surface is covered.
3. Apply using an appropriate dressing technique.
4. Cover with an appropriate retention dressing. Wound exudate will evaporate from the gel surface; the secondary dressing should not hinder this evaporative process where exudate is heavy.
5. Generally dressings should be changed daily in heavily exuding wounds, reducing to twice weekly (or weekly) as healing proceeds.
6. To remove Pharma-Algi  F use tweezers, forceps or a gloved hand to gently lift the dressing away – The dressing may adhere if used on a very lightly exuding wound. Removal of the dressing is facilitated by saturating the wound with saline.
