Precautions :
When bandaging your hand, take the following precautions to ensure a smooth healing process:
• Avoid pulling the bandage tight. If you make the bandage too tight, it will cut off circulation in your hand. To
check if it’s too tight, squeeze one of your fingernails and count to five. The color should return to your fingernail
within two seconds. If it doesn’t, you should loosen it.
• Wrap beyond the site of the injury. Wrapping the areas surrounding the injury helps to ensure pressure is
applied evenly.
Instructions for Use:
For compression bandages, in a normal-shaped leg, the circumference of the leg gradually increases from the
ankle up toward the knee. An appropriate bandage applied to a normal-shaped leg with a spiral technique and
with the same tension will produce graduated compression.
The frequency of reapplication of the bandage will depend on several factors including:
– Changes in the leg’s diameter as a result of edema reduction.
– The condition of the wound bed Levels of exudate Skin condition.
– The patient’s level of physical activity.
– The type of primary application, e.g. alginate, hydrocolloid, if one is used, may also necessitate a more frequent inspection and application change. Itis possible to leave a bandage on a leg for up to 7 days when all these factors are appropriately addressed and suitable conditions are met.
When to change the bandage:
– As directed by the health care professional.
– When they Become dirty or wet.
Wash & Reuse instruction:
Wash the bandage in lukewarm water by hand. To prolong the life of the bandage DO NOT scrub the bandage. Dry the bandage by laying it out flat on a clean surface. After the bandage has dried, roll the bandage as you would after using it. Be sure to smooth out all wrinkles. This is essential for re-bandaging. No ironing is required.
